Settle in

This book reads chronologically while weaving in the most delicate of back-stories. The author superbly holds a mirror up to not only his own actions, but to the actions done to him and his family and the consequences they produce. But he does it in such a way the reader is able to muster a modicum of sympathy for even the most evil of actions, which is what Christ teaches us to do. Consequences abound, some in the most tragic way, but in the end love and forgiveness prevail. Overall, the book is a page-turner. Each chapter ends in an "Okay, one more chapter then I'll go to bed" kind of way until you realize you've turned the last page. I even found myself returning to the acknowledgements and introduction to make sure every word was read. The book is not just for alcoholics or addicts, but for all of us struggling with unforgiveness, the true bait of Satan. Sometimes, the ability to forgive ourselves is the greatest hurdle of all. This book is a tool to leap over that mountain.

Truly a Fearless Moral Inventory

It's a fearless moral inventory from which we could all benefit. The author pours out his story onto the pages, written in a frank and easy to follow style. It is a very engaging read, which will likely encourage the reader to their own moral inventory. I highly recommend this book.

Pain Redeemed

I just finished reading "Hi, My Name is Jack" and can only say "WOW"!!

This book should be the flagship book for AA and any other group dealing with addictions.

The author's brutal honesty and transparency about himself and his downward spirals is mind gripping, sometimes mind numbing, but you find yourself cheering for him to climb back out of the pit each time he falls, as he does often.

But in the end, it is a story of redemption. "Hi, My Name is Jack" is a story of hope, in that no matter how bad it gets as we suffer the consequences of our own decisions and actions, there is a God who will walk with us through the darkest parts of our life, and in His great mercy and forgiveness, redeem our pain. Highly recommend this book.
